Qioptiq presents new Munich plant

The leading manufacturer of sophisticated optical products and systems unveils new site to customers at special Technology Day

October 8, 2010

Precisely one hundred days ago, LINOS, the globally operating manufacturer of sophisticated optical systems, completed its integration into the Qioptiq Group.

Along with the change of name, the company branding was thoroughly modernized early in the year and standardized for all 14 group locations and all 2,300 employees. The rebranding has strengthened the company’s standing within international competition and boosted sales activities. Qioptiq took over LINOS as far back as 2006, with products from the two companies being marketed jointly since 2007.

Technology Day at Qioptiq
On October 8, 2010, Qioptiq held a Technology Day at the new plant in Feldkirchen near Munich to present the company to its customers. Customers and business partners from Germany and other countries were able to find out about the performance spectrum and the competences of the technology group that are available around the world. Various specialist product and system solution talks were given on the areas of Industrial Manufacturing, Medical & Life Sciences, Research & Development and Defense & Aerospace.

New premises in Feldkirchen
After moving from its Rodenstock site in downtown Munich, the company now has modern premises extending over some 12,000 m2 at its newest site, with an excellent infrastructure. The up-and-coming industrial location of Feldkirchen is in close proximity to the ‘Neue Messe München’ trade fair center and conveniently located for easy airport access.

Thanks to investment in environmentally friendly equipment and the optimization of production processes under one roof, the company now has the best facilities and capabilities for increased efficiency in the development and production of optical system solutions. “The move represents an essential step into the future for Qioptiq,” says Volker Brockmeyer, Qioptiq Executive Vice President. “The new location offers the best prerequisites for us to drive our technological developments forward.” Currently, the Qioptiq workforce at Feldkirchen numbers around 280.

Optical system solutions facilitate new treatment options in ophthalmology One example of the pioneering development work of the Qioptiq Group is in the area of ophthalmology: Technologies from Qioptiq facilitate the use of femto-second lasers in this field. Using extremely short light pulses, the laser can also perform cuts in transparent materials, thus opening up new possibilities especially in ophthalmology. After early successes in cornea and cataract surgery, experts now also see great potential for this technology in the treatment of presbyopia, as Dr Uwe Oberheide, Head of Science at Cologne research center Laserforum explained on the occasion of the Qioptiq Technology Day.
